About
David Ellwand is a British artist whose practice spans photography, illustration, and, more recently, sculptural metalwork.
Ellwand is widely recognised for his distinctive work in both fine art and publishing, including the award-winning Fairie-ality and The Mystery of the Fool and the Vanisher. His images often explore the boundary between the real and the imagined, drawing on natural forms, Victorian photographic techniques, and the aesthetics of the arcane. He has also worked commercially for advertising agencies and the music industry.
His transition into metalwork builds upon these foundations—where light, once captured through a lens, is now embedded in enamel, cast in copper, and shaped by fire.
His sculptural work explores the poetics of form, celestial mapping, and material memory, often referencing astronomical, mythological, and archaeological themes.
Ellwand lives and works in West Sussex.
